Walter Haehl weuneudy - uecemoer I/, lyUU r'age Gasoline Prices Must be Posted by Jan. 1 All Sonoma County ser- vice stations must post the price of their three major grades of gasoline - regular, premium and unleaded - and diesel, and the prices must be clearly visibl from the street, ac- cordig to County Sealer of Weights and Measures Gene Bologna. Concerning the ne law, Bologna had this to say: "Up until now there hasn't beenany state law requirng advertising of prices by retail service outlets. As a result (in areas where no local ordinance demanded it) most stations either did not post prices, or, at best, posted only some of the less expensive grades. Customer confusion inevitably followed." "There are somee erup- tions to the new law," continues Bologna. "Scenic corridors or historical preservation areas may be exempted by local law. Prices may be posted either by gallon orliter. However, if, and or when 75 percent of the stations in the state are selling gasoline by the liter, then ALL stations must advertise price by liter." Bologna also said that the unusal enforcement policies, used by the Office of Weights and Measures, will be employed in en- forcing the new law. Verbal and written requests for compliance will be given before more serious steps are taken. "Based on past ex- perience," the County Sealer said, "I expect a high degree of voluntary com- pliance." k.
