They also are able to shape theft own loaf of bread, as well as to taste some of Franco- American's products. This fami- ly-owned bakery has been in Sonoma County for many years, and we appreciate the efforts of Frank Bastoni, the owner, in pro- viding this learning experience for our students. It's a Small World Students in Mrs. Spina's rt)om 11 were thrilled recently to have a tour of Italy, thanks to Mrs. Hutcheson and her son, Beau. Beau was in room 11 last year, and he accompanied his mother and brother on a European tour last summer Beau shared with room 11 students slides of many of his exciting experiences in Italy, such as the Ferrari factory, the leaning tower of Pisa, and several won- derful works of art. Room 11 stu- dents are focusing on Italy this year in our "Around the World" theme. There are Giants in Sonoma County That's right! Miss Harris' and Mrs. Simoneau's second graders stood right next to these giants, that is the giant coastal redwood trees of Armstrong Woods in Guerneville. They traveled by bus and after a quick snack of granola bars four groups of students, parents and volunteer docent embarked on a 3/4 mile hike amongst the giants. As the groups moved amongst the giant redwoods, they were all in awe of their beauty and height. They all stood beside Parson Jones and Colonel Armstrong, the tall- est coastal redwoods in the woods, both over 300 feet tall with diam- eters of 13 feet. Parsons is 1300 years old and Armstrong is 1400 years old. The students all moved on to hug a giant redwood. It took at least nine students and three adults to hug a giant red- wood. If the temperature of the turkey as measured by the thermometer placed in the thigh has reached 180"F, then the bird is done and safe to eat. If stuffed, the temperature of the stuffing should reach 165"F before it is removed from the cavity to be safe.
