Refunds must be sent for and your return comes through the mail. Refunds are returned to you in one of three ways, a cash refund, a free gift, or a free product coupon you can redeem at the store for a free package of that product. Refunds are a promotional scheme devised by manufac- turers to get you to try and keep on buying their productS. Refunding s a way of cutt*ng hundreds of dollars each year sty your grocery bill Refunds pay you cash just to use certain products. Refunding is the process of sending labels, box tops and other proofs of purchase (POP), or sometimes referred to as quahfiers, to the manufacturer. Refund forms can be found in many of the same places as cashoffs Imagazines, newspapers, etc.), but the greatest number of refund forms are displayed on pads attached to grocery store shelves, or bulletin boards. Here's how refunding works: The manufacturer issues an offer of a refund to all customers who have bought a par- hcular product of that company You then take one of the refund forms, fill it out, and mail it in to the address given, accompamed by whatever proof of purchase is required. The form, with your qualifiers, reaches a redemption agency or clearinghouse, which processes the refund. The clearinghouse checks Is see that you have sent the proper proofs of purchase Then it mails youacheck, free gift. or free product coupon in the manufacturer's name. Most refund offers are made on refund forms. On the r fund form you wilt find a place for your name, address, and zip code. You will also find the terms and restrictions of the offer The terms will indicate how many and what proofs of purchase must accompany your request for a r fund The restrictions are usually against duplicates or re- production of the refund form. You can't use a copy of the form or anything other than the actual refund form. Only one request per name or address is a restriction against multiple requests. The refund requests are kept on a corn- , puler which can compare qew requests against those al- ready in the computer with the same name or address. This will result in the computer discarding the second re- quest. Inexpenswe name and address labels are available from a variety of sources. You can buy 1000 for as little a dollar. Pasting an address label to a refund form saves you time and ensures that the form wi;l be easily read at the refund clearinghouse. As you become an experienced refunder, these labels really come in handy. Refund forms, just like cashoffs, should be kepl in an or- ganized system, I have mine filed according to the month they will expire. I have'a box set up with dividers for each month of the year and one marked no expiration date (NED). I always keep the current month up to the front of the box as it will be the first to expire. As I acquire a quali- fier for a refund offer bul have not completely fulfilled all the requirements of lhat offer, I will attach what qualifiers I do have to 1he proper form and place it in my files under the month it expires and behind partial deals. Upon com- pleting all the requirements of an offer I then place my form with all the proofs of purchase attached behind the divider labeled complete deals (C/D). This is done to ena- ble me tOlOm my family during our television viewing brae During this time I will place my address label on the form and address the envelope for mailing. As I recewe a new form I file it in the proper month it will expire I also keep a record book with each form listed under the month that it is filed in my box. This enables me to tell at a glance if I have a certain form, when it expires and if I have mailed it in or not. Ths week's excellent refunding buy is: DOLE PINEAP- PLE, 20 oz. can, 69% savings of 14% I will be using my cash- off that if I buy 3 cans--get one free. I will be using 3 of these for a total of 9 cans I will purchase and receiving 3 free. For the 9 purchased I will be using 9 10ent cas otis. for a total savings of 90 cents. Then I wilt sending ten of these labels in for my $3. refund offer. By shop- ping the special using cashoffs and sending for my refund I wdt receive 12 cans of Dole Pineapple for $2.31, a total savings of $765 or a 77% reduction on the total cost. All these cashoffs and forms I received in this past month's newspapers. Since fall is here and the leaves are falling it's time to buy some Glad trash bags $1.19 savings of 40 cents. By using my 2 40-cent cashoffs I will receive two boxes for $1.. I wilt then send them in for a free product coupon - one free box a 33% reduction. 8 OZ.
