Page 6, Cloverdale Reveille, November 5, i997 Eagles down Willits in third NCL I game By Roberta Lyons The Cloverdale Eagles varsity football team traveled to Willits on Halloween night and downed the Wolverines 34-0. TJ Bird continues to be the rush- ing leader in the RedwoM Em- pire and carried the ball 25 times for 247 yards in Friday night's game. Scoring four touchdowns alto- gether, Bird made the first score of the evening on a two yard run early in the second quarter. The second touchdown came with a seven yard run by Mike Castrillo. With a minute and 22 seconds left in the half, David Smith had a key block that loosed Bird for a 74 yard scoring run. Kicks by Brady Cox were good and the score at halftime was 21- 0. In the third quarter Bird scored again on a six yard run and the kick was good. TJ then had his last carry of the game on a 41 yard in which he broke four tackles to make the final touchdown of the game. In the fourth quarter Clover- dale's offense controlled the ball with Chris Lands and Mike Cas- trillo running for just under 100 yards. Mike Castrillo had a good kick- off return for 35 yards to set up an excellent field position starting the second half; he also had six tack- les. Hector Galvan had seven tack- los; Nick Angeli, six tackles; Kevin Cookman, six tackles; Chris Lands and Logan Crump each had five tackles and Mark Selberg had four. The Eagles are 2-1 in North Central League I play. Leading in the standings is Kelseyville at 3-0; followed by Clear Lake, 2-1 and Cloverdale. The Eagles meet Clearlake in a home game this Friday, Nov. 7 with junior varsity play starting at 5:45 p.m. At Willits Cloverdale - 0 21 13 0 - 34 Willits - 0 0 0 0 - 0 Ryan Peters (I) is a junior playing fullback and comer back for the Cloverdale Eagles varsity football team. Chris Glasgow, also a junior, pays receiver on offense and is a defensive back. Junior Nick Kennedy, a member of the Eagles varsity football team, is an offensive and defensive tackle. Nice win for JVs too The junior varsity Eagles en- joyed a vict(ry over the Willits Wolverines, 21-19 last Friday night. Cloverdale scored in the first quarter on a Carlos Crippes eight yard run; Moises Barrajas kicked the extra point to make it 7-0 for the first quarter. A key play in this first touchdown was a 50 yard run by Nick Green. Early in the second quarter Wil- lits scored on a 45 yard run. The kick was good and the score was tied up at 7-7. Later in the quarter Cloverdale scored on a Mike Ra- mazzotti fumble recovery that he returned for a 22 yard touchdown. The kick failed and the score was 13-7 at halftime. In the third quarter Cloverdale scored again on an 18 yard pass from Mike Ramazzotti to Jesse I Balistreri and Wade Meier ran in the two point conversion to put Cloverdale up 21 to 7. In the fourth quarter the Eagles held Willits until six minutes left in the game. The Wolverines cap- italized on two Cloverdale fum- bles and scored twice to make it 21 to 19. They went for the two point conveion to tie the game and Scan Lands came up with a big play - sacking the quarterback .The Eagles hung on and time ran out for Willits. Defensive standouts were Scan Lands with eight tackles and two sacks; Mike Ramazzotti with a big fumble recovery for a touchdown and Charles Williams with an in- terception.
