Mammography system at Cloverdale Medical Imaging State of the art mammography is now available in Clovcrdale for comprehensive breast examinations. "The mammography system from GE Medical Systems will allow us to detect breast cancers early enough to affect proper and timely treatment," according to Mammographer Carol Staggs. "Early detection is crucial to ensuring a cure." "Mammography is an x-ray tech 7 nique that can often spot cancerous lesion long before a lump can be .seen or felt by even the most experi- enced physicians," explained Robert Haynes, M.D., Radiologist for Clo- verdale Medical Imaging.- According to Dr. Haynes, the brief procedure involves compressing the breast while exposing it to a small dose of radiationl A film under the breast captures the resulting image. Each breast is examined from two angles. A magnification view can also be obtained. Cloverdale Medical Imaging rec- ommends following the American Cancer Society's mammography guidelines. In addition to a monthly sell-examination and annual physi- cian's examination; the Society's guidelines recommend that 'all women between ages of 35 and 40 have a "baseline" or reference mmamogram exam; women between 40 and 50 should have a mammogram every year. The guidelines also state that women whose medical history indi- cates special risk should consult their doctors about beginning periodic exams at an earlier age. "Our mammography system is specifically designed to provide the optimum x-ray beam quality, flex- ible operation and low level of radia- tion required for effective imaging," Dr. Haynes said. "The procedure is simple and fast and can be done with minimal patient discomfort." CLOVER SPRINGS After this session, Mr. Heckel will ask for a straw vote to determine if the Commission has reached a con- sensus on the report. Clover Springs consists of 175 acres within the City Limits and 200 acres outside located on the former Moul- ton Winery property fronting S. Clo- verdale Blvd. across from Brrarwood Mobilehome Park. Director Heckel is recommending that the Planning Commission ac- cept his recommendation regarding the 200 acres outside the City Limits. He propse, S,. that any discretionary action on this phase of the project be deferred until the General Plan revi- sion is completed. In his report, the Director indicates that should the developer, Michael Rosen of Rohnert Park, seek to de- velop the 200 acres under the County's jurisdiction the project would be denied based upon incosistency with the County's General Plan. The focusd of the present EIR id on impacts of developing the 175 acres in the incorporated area.
