Cost of the recommended op- tion to the district would be $27,716 for 1997-98 and $29,816 in 1998-99. When he left the District Barney received $70,000 counting benefits, overtime, and insurance costs. Option one would cover the 10 open shifts with volunteers and interns with the chief covering any shifts that could not be filled. This Option would cost $14,900 for the current fiscal year and $18,000 for 1998-99. Option two would add a fire- fighter/engineer position at a low- er cost than Barney was paid with a salary of $27,120 to $33,300 plus overtime at $14 per hour and em- ployer benefits and expenses. Option three would provide ad- ditional staffing and a fire engine through the CDF at an annual cost of $25,500. Two more options have been added to the list for or the Board to consider. Option five would include the CDF contract and volunteers plus adding a paid shaft coverage for the 10 shifts per month formerly filled by Barney for a total cost of $38,216 in 1997-98. Option six would provide a full- time firefighter/Engineer and the CDF contract for a cost of $60,270 in 1997-98. Option seven would include hir- ing a full-time firefighter-engineer, volunteers plus paid shift cover- age every day November - May. At the September meeting fire- men attending urged the Board to hire a replacement for Barney rath- er than go with any CDF option. The public is welcome to attend the Oct. 13 meeting to make their recommendations to the board. CUSD seeks input for long range plan The Cloverdale Unified School District is seeking members of the community to work with staff and parents on a long-range plan for its schools. The 5-year plan will focus on offering students the best possible education. The Board last week identified target areas for the plan that include Curriculum and Instruction, Finance, Facili- ties, Parent-Community Involve- ment, Student Services and Personnel.
