For example, when my children were very young their mother managed to "ease" our blue Bronco off dirt road into a nice ditch so that the Bronco was half way to being on its side. No one was hurt and no damage .was done, but the kids were upset, When we got home they played with a toy blue Bronco driving it off the back of the couch into the cushion "ditch." Over and over again the toy "crashed" and along came Grandpa's jeep to pull us out. By the fourth or fifth crash and rescue it was really a game, and how silly of mommy to get the Bronco stuck anyway. We never really talked about feelings or being scared or what could have happened, but they ended up happy and relaxed with quite a story for Daddy - oops! "Play therapy may be directive with the therapist guiding and selecting the play and discussion: or it can be nondirective (or self- directive on the part of the client). Nondirective play therapy is the choice of most therapists. It allows the child to direct the activity, giving permission to the child to be him or herself- that it is okay. The therapist uses a technique of feeding back to the child what the child says (often while the play is going on ), For example: Child: Most people don't like me. enough attention to you and speech problems, and adults feel better after a Therapist: You say that makes you mad. reading problems, game of tenms or baske+ people don't like you.
