Hazardous materials in the tool shed! Many common house- hold products pose risks to peo- ple and to the environment. It is illegal to dispose of them in the trash or down the sink. There is a solution: safe disposal at the Household Toxics Roundup. The Roundup will be held on Satur- day, Oct. 4 at the Citrus Fair- grounds in Cloverdale. The event lasts from 9-3, is available to all Sonoma County residents, and is free. Some of the materials accepted from households include: aerosol containers, antifreeze, auto and household batteries, cleaners, fuel, make-up, motor oil, nail polish and remover, pharmaceuticals, paint, paint stripper, paint thin- ner, pesticides, photo chemicals, polish, pool and spa chemicals, solvents, wood preservatives and finishes. Products, which are still usable, will be available for free at an exchange table. The collection event will not accept: explosives, ammunition, or radioactive materials. The event is for resident only: businesses may call (800)207-8222 to learn about scheduled collection events for business hazardous waste. Each vehicle is limited to 15 gallons or 125 lbs. of solid materi- al, to comply with state and feder- al transportation laws. Transport all materials in separate, sealed containers placed carefully to avoid tipping or spilling. Household Toxics Roundups are sponsored by the Sonoma County Waste Management Agency, and are scheduled in sev- eral locations throughout the year.
