Page 10, Cloverdale Reveille, August 6, 1997 i:i'.'--: urer Salmon fishing has been slow to excellent depending on the day and area fished. Bodega boats have gone up to I0 miles out and 10-15 miles south to find salmon. Most of the Berkeley, Marin and Sausalito party boats have found fish out at Duxbury and the shipping channel buoys. The fishing at both locations had been very good with many early limits up until last Tues- day. On Tuesday over 20 party boats and many private boats found salmon fishing to be slow for no apparent reason in those two locations. A lack of bait and scattered fish were cited as potential rea- sons. Rockfishing trips have shown 3/4 to full limits for boats traveling out to Cordell Bank and Farallon Islands. Halibut fishing has been fair to good in the San Francisco Bay. Most party boat trips have been drifting live bait for best success. There has also been some halibut reported out of Tomales Bay but the bite should be considered slow with most private beats reporting zero to two fish per boat. Striper action in the bay has started to pick up near the Brothers Islands. There has been an early morn- ing topwater bite in the no-wake zones in both lake arms of the lake. Some are also offering sh al- low diving baits in shallow wa- ter early for generally good results. The bass then go deep, with most switching to rubber worms, grubs and crawdads with limited success. The catfish bite remains fair with most using chicken liver or stink baits. No trout have been reported this week. Clear Lake The topwater bite has been good for those using white buzzbaits, Pop-r's, and Zara Spooks. In the afternoons most use brown or dark colored worms and grubs around docks and rocky areas. The catfishing bite remains good, must have been fishing at night. Lake Mendocino The fishing in general has been pretty slow. The water level has dropped to a point that makes large boat launchinghard. Some have caught a few catfish and stripers in the north end of the lake, but fishing is considered slows. Upper Blue Lake Fishing at Upper Blue Lake has been fair to good. Trollers have done best rolling blades and a worm or rapalas at 20 or so feet down. Bank fishermen have been using powerbait. Trout Plants Last week the east branch of the Russian River was planted with catchable trout. This week the San Pablo reservoir and No- vato Creek are scheduled for planting. Sonoma County Museum awarded grant The Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) and the National Institute for the Con- servation of Cultural Property (NIC) are pleased to announce the Sonoma County Museum has been awarded a 1997 Conserva- tion Assessment Program (CAP) grant. The Sonoma County Museum is one of 155 institutions grant- ed CAP in 1997. Through on-site consultation with a professional conservator, the grant will en- gage the Sonoma County Muse- um to evaluate its current collections care policies, proce- dures and environmental condi- tions. CAP assist museums in mak- ing collections care and conser- vation a fundamental priority of their institutions. Diane Frankel, director of IMLS, states, "I am very proud of all that this program has accomplished. It is a model public-private partner- ship that increases access to museums' collections across the country. Larry Reger, president of NIC, said, The Sonoma Coun- ty Museum is joining a growing number of museums through- out the U.S. that are learning to better care for their collections so they will be available for fu- ture generations." The Sonoma County Museum is located at 425 Seventh Street, Santa Rosa, CA 95401, and spe- cializes in collecting the histori- cal and cultural heritage of Sonoma County. It is open to the public from Wednesday to Sun- day, 11 am to 4 pm. On view at the Sonoma County Museum is A Painter's Journey: Arthur Haddock from Sonoma County to Santa Fe through September 21; ArTrails Preview-October 3 through 25; Day of the Dead Altar-October 25 through No- vember 9; African-American Heritage Experience-November 7 through February 22, 1998. CAP provides funds for a gen- eral conservation survey of the museum's collections and sites. Conservation priorities are iden- tified by professional conserva- tors who spend two days surveying the site and three days writing a comprehensive eport. Reports produced by conserva- tors help museums develop long- term plans for improved collections care. "The Sonoma County Museum expects to de- velop an overall collections and building care program and to establish conservation as an in- tegral part of our institution's mission from participating in CAP," said Eric Nelson, Execu- tive director. CAP is a one-time award fund- ed by IMLS and administered by NIC. IMLS provides Federal support for museums and librar- ies. IMLS is comprised of the Offices of Museum Services (OMS) and Library Services (OLS). Congress established IMSLSn 1996 through the Mu- seum and Library Services Act which consolidates museum sup- port formerly administered by the Institute of Musem Services and library programs formerly administered by the Department of Education. NIC, based in Washington, De, is the national organization representing con- servation and preservation ac- tivities in the United States. ..... AP was originated in 1990 and has funded over i,000 ni- seums. For more information about CAP, contact NIC at 3299 K Street, NW, Suite 602, Wash- ington DC, 2000-4415 or 202- 625-1495.
