Page 2 The Cloverdale Reveille June 27, 2019 www cloverdalereveille.com After much deliberation by judges, the winners of the Cloverdale Sculpture Trail awards were announced on June 8. The trail judges were Jill Plamann, former owner of Hammerfriar Gallery in Healdsburg, and Jann Nunn of Oakland who has exhibited, lectured and held residencies internationally and throughout the United States. The following sculptors were selected by the judges for their exceptional work: Best of Show award went to Hector M. Ortega of Phoenix, Arizona, for his sculpture Was I Just Another One? His sculpture was created out of his realization that it was time to progress beyond his constrained geometrical sculptures and look to the future. This sculpture is location on the north corner of Cloverdale Boulevard and West Second Street. Nicki's Dream by Michael Seymour of Santa Rosa won the First Place Award. Photo provided NOT JUST ANOTHER ONE -- Hector M. Ortega's sculpture Was I Just Another One? was awarded Best of Show for the 2019 Cloverdale Sculpture Trail. The sculptures currently on the trail will stay up until around May 2020, where a new crop of art pieces will be installed. areQ Nicki's Dream was inspired by Seymour's daughter's early love of horses; it was created with her in mind. The sculpture is located on the east side of First Street and Cloverdale Boulevard. Honorable mention went to Philip Lynch of Cloverdale for Peace Prayer. According to Lynch, there are two main aspects of his work -- the art and structure that presents it. The sculpture started with a digitally rendered work, next Lynch went through an intricate process that ended in a kinetic sculpture with tiles that move and shimmer with the slightest breeze. Peace Prayer is located in the empty lot next to Plank Coffee, which houses the Cloverdale Farmers Market. The Cloverdale Sculpture Trail held a People's Choice Event on June 8, where public could vote for their favorite new sculpture in the 2019-20 Trail. Did the public agree with the judges? At the Artists' Reception it was announced that Zephyra by Sculpture Jam of Sebastopol won the People's Choice award. -- Submitted by Joyce P.
