When kids participate in these activities, they learn to cope with stress, gain self- esteem, build stronger bodies and gain new skills all while enjoying positive social interactions. At camp, club members experience the joy of discovery and hands-on learning with over 5,000 field trip opportunities. This summer's destinations include The Academy of Sciences, Armstrong Woods, the Exploratorium, Sonoma Raceway, River's Edge Kayaking, Oakland Zoo and Doran Beach among many other fun adventures. Our campers read at least 30 minutes every day -- that's 1,500 minutes of developing literacy during the summer -- and summer camp is full to the brim with opportunities for youth to experience the joy of creative expression. Programs like painting, sculpture, drama, dance, music makers and STEAM-based learning activities don't just develop a kid's creativity -- the skills they learn spill over into academic achievement and strengthen problem solving and critical thinking skills. At summer camp, club members are learning to become tomorrow's community leaders. The teen campers have the chance to develop good character and leadership skills as Councilors-In-Training. The CIT program helps some of our most at risk kids experience the power of being a positive role model and making good decisions.
