Page 14 - Wednsday, May 7, 1980 Cloverdale's "March tax share State Controller Kenneth Cory recently reported "distribution of $44,761,048 to ':eities and counties as the March apportionment of -State-collected "in-lieu" motor vehicle license fees: Cory reported Sonoma :County received $274,061, and 'the City of Cloverdale received $4866. :,* The distribution represents the cities and counties share of license fees and other ,Yevenue deposited in the Motor Vehicle License Fee ,Account during February, 1980. ,+ The State excise tax at the rate of $2 per $100 of market ivalue takes the place of local property tax on motor wehicles. Except for that ljortion withheld to cover administrative costs, the money is returned to local ,governments which may use ,their shares for general purposes. Half of each distribution went to the cities and half to counties in the proportion /.hat the population of each city or county bears to the population of all the cities or counties in the State. Distribution is based on the 1970 Federal Census as ad- justed to reflect new in- corporations, annexations, special census and State Department of Finance ', tstimates. :State Controller Kenneth Cory today announced the b,distribution of $66,852,112 -,,'among the State, cities and d!counties as the March ap- portionment of highway users c ltaxes. ,; The distribution was ,,$2,221,464 more than that for 'Jhe same month last year. ,-,,The March gasoline tax ,distribution was $1,209,287 ,ore than that for March 1979. The diesel fuel tax distribution was $1,012,641 ;:-more than in March, 1979. Sonoma County's share cwas $258,680, and Cloverdale hCity's share was $3,253. ,,: A total of $16,478,502 went .,$1irectly to the counties; .12,459,232 to cities; ,$37,884,378 for expenditures n State highways; and $30,000 to the Bicycle Lane ,,,ccbunt. .i  The total apportionment %,-bvas derived from the "t following sources: gasoline Lhtax, $39,800,924; diesel fuel tax, $7,048,892; and miscellaneous, 12,296. ? The total available for the March. apportionment was $2,763,724 less than that for the preceding month. The gasoline tax was $245,260 ,,more than the February ,distribution. The diesel fuel ,,tax was $1,463,987 less than vthat for February, and there ;,,:was no income from in- zvestments in February. The Vehicle License Fee law provides that the license fees paid on all trailer coaches registered in California be apportioned monthly to the counties on the basis of the addresses of the vehicles recorded by the wDepartment of Motor ;.,;Vicles. :,: + Each County Auditor then semi-annually distributes the L,,otal county apportionment among the county, the city (if  he address is within a city) and the school districts in ::,h each trailer is situated.
