Page 10 - Wednesday, April 23, 1980 HDL tests to be held A new test for high density lipoproteins (HDL), a fat that's good for the body, will be given in the Coronary Risk Evaluation program slated for Cloverdale on Sunday. In addition to tests for body fat, blood pressure and an overnight fasting blood test for glucose, triglycerides, uric acid and cholesterol, a special test for HDL will also be done. "Cholesterol is carried in the body by HDL. Recently it has been recognized in the Framingham Heart Study that HDL is protective against heart attacks The more you have, the better it is for you," says Joe Hillibert, Community Services Coor- dinator. When HDL levels are high, it lowers the risk of cholesterol build-up, a process that begins in adolescence for most people. Children whose families have histories of heart atttacks or stroke should have a blood test for cholesterol and be placed on corrective diets if the level is high, says the American Heart Association. Participants in the com- munity health screening and educational program will receive a copy of test results and explanations of normal and abnormal results. An appointment and fur- ther information are available by calling 894-3201. Volunteer health personnel from the Seventh-day Ad- ventist Church contribute their time to the non-profit medically-directed program. A $25 donation to defray laboratory and medical expenses will be received at the testing site. Come... help your health As a final remin- der...tomorrow is the Day...
