Next week will be National Library week, and the local public library is sponsoring a Book Mark Contest, through the Friends of the Library. Each child creates his own book mark. and enters it in the contest, and they will be judged on various grade levels, with awards given in each group, and their book- mark will be used by the library. Jefferson School through their Site Council is planning !lieGOWan, s to put on a Reading Workshop third in May, on how you can help your child with his-her reading during the summer months. There was an excellent First Aid Lecture and Demonstration put on by the PTA with Dick and Donna Wooldrige, certified in- structors putting on the program. Do you know what to do if your child falls, and hits his head, or he can't move his legs, etc.? That is the kind of program put on, and if you missed it, you really missed a good in- structive emergency health program. A movie "The Wellness Revolution" with narrator, Dick Van Patten, will be presented in cooperation with William Russell Ledford Unit 293, American Legion Auxiliary and Jefferson Schools PTA on Monday, April 2lst at 7:30 p.m. at Jefferson School. This movie concerns itself with the high costs of being sick and how we can avoid many visits to the doctor by merely changing some of our habits. Public Schools Week will be April 21-25. On Wednesday the 23rd Jefferson School will have an Open House at which PTA will hold it's annual Book Fair..a favorite of the children. Next week Jefferson School will have their third RIF book given to each child free to take home and keep for their very own, thanks to com- munity minded clubs like the Lions, PTA, American Legion Auxiliary and VFW Auxiliary and others, who matched the government grant for these books. In fact this year each child will receive an extra book later on in lhe year just before summer vacation, which will give them an incentive to read during their summer vacation. The first attempt to evaluate the drug was in 1894 with the Indian Hemp Drugs Commission Report. DOne in India the study was com- missioned by the British government. At the time of (available in the Healdsburg Library ). In 1965 the principal active ingredient of cannabis was identified as THC- tetrahydrocannabinol. THC is found in the resin of the flowers and leaves of the plant. Hardin and Helen Jones give a detailed chemical account of THC in brain immediately after exposure; the THC stored in the body fat accounts for the persistent effect." Tolerance to THC develops over a long period of con- tinued use. As the THC levels first begin to build in the brain, for a while smaller amounts of marijuana can produce a high. However this Citrus Squares honor anniversaries I I I long time to be excreted from the body, thus the mild with- drawal experience. This weeks information was based on material from: Sensual Drugs; Hardin B. Jones and Helen C. Jones; Cambridge University Press, 1977. Monday, April 7, was party night at the Citrus Squares. Edna and Garnet Rowland were honored on their 50th Anniversary. Louise and Wes Cross were honored for their 44th Anniversary. Dena Gambetta was honored for her 43rd Anniversary. Dena supplied the group with party favors consisting of bunnies with chocolate "Kisses" for a nose and candies for the eyes. Birthdays honored were Becky Calioway and Bobby Cole. Dave and Hazel Wischeman, callers from the Saucy Squares, square dancers from Sebastopol were present, and brought with them several dozen miniature roses for sale. The sale of roses is intended to supply money for a hardwood floor for the Sebastopol group's new hall. Refresh- ments were supplied by Vanya Leighton, club caller for the Citrus Squares. Square dancers generally wear distinctive clothing, usually of the western type. It is well known that horses "sweat", men "perspire" and ladies "glow" so to the men square dancers wear long sleeve shirts so that the ladies won't have to grasp perspiring, hairy arms on the boys. Of course the ladies just "glow", so that is no problem for the boys. Western style trousers, and boots or shoes complete the boys ensemble. Some men square dancers wear cowboy hats and occasionally a bail secured to the belt with a small towel hung from it. Bandanna handkerchiefs also serve for sweaty brows. The ladies all wear skirts or dresses that are full, so when whirled about on the floor the skirts swing out in full circle. Petticoats of many layers are used under the skirts to hold the dress out and are displayed to advantage when dancing. Pettipants are worn under it all and generally are as fancy as the rest of the costume. Square dancing is a vigorous activity, and the coldest participant at the first dance of the evening, soon finds himself or herself warm physically, and aglow socially. Workshops continue at the Jefferson School each Monday night. Beginners class is from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and the advanced class isS:30p.m, to 10:00p.rn. New dancers are welcome at the earlier hour, but hurry, as the class will soon be closed to beginning dancers. eel Sativa the report "hemp was a their book.
