Paced by Kenny Baumgarners 14 points and Wade Smiths 12, the Eagles kept the score within reach for the entire first half up until the last two minutes when they were plagued by turnovers and a tired defense. They allowed the Saints to score eight straight points to lead at half time by a score of 35 to 22. In the second half the Saints easily increased their lead over the Eagles, as they kept the Eagles offense confused. They obtained this by switching their defense from a man to man to a zone and back again throughout the half to win the game going away 71 to 42. Other scorers for the Eagles include Scott Senor with 6, Mark Hetrick with 5, Mark Nelson with 4, and Gilbert Villarreal with I Snider was a little out of practice not II for several years, he was a good of the most entertaining highlights of the t game Saturday evening. Eagles suffer loss By SCOTT CHS Correspondent The JV Boys Basketball team was beaten badly by the Saints in St. Helena on Thursday, February 14. The Eagles were fast- breaked to death in the first half when the Saints con- sistantly stole the hall from around the Eagles' 9ffensive point. The Cloverdale team had a hard time filling the point position after losing their starting point man. St. Helena ran the score up to 30, over Cloverdale's 8 at half- time. The second half was much like the first except at a slower pace. St Helena maintained their lead even though Cloverdale played with determination. Jerry Novac picked up the slack in the second half after Michael Pang went out with an ankle injury in the first. The Eagles made a hard charge near the end of the game but the time ran out and the game was over with the final score St. Helena 47; Cloverdale 39. Jerry Novac led all scorers with 21 points followed by Eric Botkin with 7. rdale Tennis Club ates first anniversary Club at the Cloverdale High School the Cloverdale High School its first courts.
