In the days and weeks leading up to the Citrus Fair, groups were hard at work putting together exhibits, sculptures and gardens for all to see. For all involved, the work is a labor of love. This year, the work in the fair's exhibit hall explored history -- the history of transportation, of women in government, of the paint gun and more. Some organizations' volunteers, like the Cloverdale Historical Society, sat and educated passersby on the history of Cloverdale. For others, an explanatory plaque was included with the piece. In an interview earlier this month, Tex Dickens of the Lions Club, who won the first place ribbon in the Adult Feature Exhibit category, said that the club decided to focus its exhibit on rail history because of how integral the railway was to bringing people west. The first place contest winners are as follows: First Place Adult Feature Exhibit: Cloverdale Lions Club First Place Junior Feature Exhibit: Cloverdale Interact Club First Place Adult Citrus Sculpture: Order of the Eastern Star First Place Junior Citrus Sculpture: Cloverdale High School (Farm to Table) First Place Adult Professional Garden: Maggie's Dad Landscape Company First Place Adult Amateur Garden: Green Thumb Garden Club First Place Junior Garden: Ukiah FFA In addition to the traditional exhibits, the fair had an ongoing sculptUre, which was being painted and put together by various board members and volunteers throughout the weekend. The goal of the sculpture was to give attendees an inside look into how everything in the exhibit hall was constructed. -- Strickland DEMONSTRATION -- This year's exhibit hall had a special exhibit, where fairgoers could learn how to build a citrus sculpture.
