McHale, the Economic Development Director for Placer County, California, has been hired as Sonoma County Director for Economic Development, effective April 2, 1980. Eric Koenigshofer, Chairman of the Board of Supervisors, announced McHaie's selection as the man to head the county's economic development and planning program, at the February 13 board meeting. McHale, 50, has been economic development director for Placer County since 1976. He also completed graduate studies at California State College, Stanislaus during 1975-76. He is a four-year veteran of the United States Air Force, serving in Korea during the Korean conflict. McHaie, who has com- pleted ten years of in- creasingly responsible and complex management of organization and-or agencies engaged in area and com- munity economic develop- ment programs, was selected from among a score of highly qualified applicants from throughout the United States. His starting salary will be $30,060 annually. McHaie is married and the father of two adult children... Nuns selected to compete In Bof A program j Lupe Nuno, a student from Geyservilie High School has been selected to compete in Bank of America's 1980 Achievement Awards program. Principal Robert H. Hileman announced recently. This top-ranking student's study field is science and mathematics. In addition, 4 other seniors received certificates of merit for superior performance in specific study fields. They are: Jennine Pray - Drama; Melanie Haas - Business; Barbara Moore Lab science; Connie McGinnis - Social science. The top-ranking seniors will each receive a personally ngraved plaque and selected students will compete on March 27 with students from neighboring high schools. Judging at this zone event will be conducted by a panel of educators and business and community leaders, and will be based on written corn- positions, group discussions, scholarship and civic and ,school activities. First place winners in this .=vent then advance to the regional finals. Second, third and fourth place zone winners in each field receive t100, $75 and $50 respectively.
