Pge 14 - Wednesday, February 6, 1980 Winery opens tasting room A new tasting room has been opened at Foppiano Winery as the culmination of a five-year improvement plan. 1"he rustic tasting room, which has French doors, overlooking the winery's vineyards, is open daily from 10 a.m. to 4: 30 p.m. Walls are wainscoted with redwood taken from redwood fer- mentation tanks. ']'he old tanks were replaced by temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. Other improvements in- clude a soon-to-be completed warehouse and picnic area. A new consumer tested label now is used for all Foppiano vintages. The winery also has added enologist Roger Powelson to its staff. He is a U.C. Davis graduate in enology and viticulture. Foppino Winery is located at 12707 Old Red- wood Highway. The winery's new phone number is 433- 72. Glimpses of the Past Continued from page 13 Mr. J.A. Carrie, dealer in dry goods and clothing, is grateful for past favors to the people of Cloverdale and re'spectfully asks a con- tiduance of the same, and at Miss Brooken's millinary Emporium there can be had a fine new stock of winter hats add bonnets, corsets and embroideries at the very lowest cash prices, and at The Cloverdale Drug Store Dr. J.O. Boggs has many fine items for the holidays that have come in. Come see how cheap they are; they are going off like hot cakes! J.H. Livernash, a dealer in fur- niure, carpeting and wallpaper, picture frames otiS. also keeps on hand coffins and caskets, and a hearse at the disposal of the public and can be procurred at!reasonable rates. While in Santa Rosa, City Marble and Granite works will provide all types of cemetery work and beautiful marble headstones udder the direction of the wopietor R. McConochie. After the funeral drop in at the Central Market next to Cloverdale Hotel where M.V. Coole keeps a full assortment of fresh beef, rdutton, pork, veal and sausage, in addition to fresh fiSh every Friday. Perhaps rids fish was brought in by rail on ice, or maybe it was caught in local streams, being fairly abundant in those days ] imagine. n closing this recap of life in 1880 please remember that the youth who allows his sweetheart to control him is a miss-guided young man-and a man who tries to build a fire with wet wood at this time of year acts in a damp-fuel-ish manner. And try to imagine this timely item of the times: Mr. Gates and his wife drove up from Petaluma one day this week in six hours - over eight miles an hour, and that with a single horse! (Think what he could have done with a married one).
